Horror Scope

Shock news in this morning's papers - the star signs that we've grown up with are wrong. Apparently no-one realised that the Earth is moving - and so we've got thirteen star signs, not twelve.

On this morning's show we were asking you to tell us your birthday so we could give you your new star sign. We had HUNDREDS of texts asking for new signs - so if we didn't manage to read yours out, sorry! Here's the list of re-arranged dates:

Capricorn: Jan 20th - Feb 16th.

Aquarius: Feb 16th - March 11th.

Pisces: March 11th - April 18th.

Aries: April 18th - May 13th.

Taurus: May 13th - June 21st.

Gemini: June 21st - July 20th.

Cancer: July 20th - Aug 10th.

Leo: Aug 10th - Sept 16th.

Virgo: Sept 16th - Oct 30th.

Libra: Oct 30th - Nov 23rd.

Scorpio: Nov 23rd - Nov 29th.

Ophiuchus: Nov 29th - Dec 17th.

Sagittarius: Dec 17th - Jan 20th.

Some of the best comments and texts that we got:

Tracey from Evesham - I have a tattoo on my arm. Im taurus. And staying that way. What twaddle..lol

Sandra - hi my name is sandra my birthday is 19 nov my husbands birthday is 8 nov we r both scorpios and he has a scorpio tattooed on his arm :-)

Steve in Redditch - a taurus tattoo covers half my back. Born 10 may. Steve

Dominique - 27 Aug virgo and i'm sticking to it. We are very nice people. Kind, understanding, sensitive as well as sensible. Dom xx

Carole in Evesham - Sorry, been a Capricorn for 58 years and I'm not changing now! Carole Evesham

Yvonne - I prefer to be Aquarius :) spent the last 41 years as one and like it :) lol x

Michelle - Ok, so tell us the bad news and is this really truly official? Beginning to understand how people must have felt when they were told the earth isn't flat, it's round!

Hazel - I'm 22nd April, and currently a Taurus, I'd hate to have to changed, I'm too old to change it now!

Angie - I like being Aquarius too (like Yvonne) so I dont think il change mine now after all this time.......... Ummmmm... I reckon the 'New Signs' should only be applied to those who are born from this year onwards.... (that is unless you really want to change!!)

Claire - oh no! apparently i'm now an Aries...with a Taurus tattoo... 26th April

Catherine - What the papers fail to meantion is there are two zodiacs. We use the tropical one, with 12 signs but there is another zodiac with 13 signs.

Chrissy - What an absolute load of tosh. I am king of the jungle Leo. No way on this planet am I now a cancer. ROARRR

We're back in the morning to start your day when you do... xx B&L

It's not just for the cinema...

You might not know this - but tomorrow is National Popcorn Day. Yes, National Popcorn Day. To celebrate, Diva Popcorn have come up with a novel idea - they're transforming "sweet, or salted" into something altogether more sophisticated...

They've taken the humble popcorn kernel and made it into a healthy snack - and it's available in flavours including Sea Salt & Balsamic Vinegar; Camembert, Gouda & Brie; Rock Salt;
and Sweet Chipotle Chilli.

It's nothing new though... popcorn
has been around for centuries. Indians used to pop corn kernels over fires or
sizzling hot stones more than 5,000 years ago. The English who came to America
in the 16th and 17th centuries learned about popcorn from the Native Americans.

So happy national popcorn day - if you're ready to pop and the diet isn't going so well, maybe popcorn's the answer?!

No, it couldn't be... could it?!

There's a lot of speculation this year about the X Factor and how fairly the judges have been voting. Katie's found herself in the sing-off week after week - and yet each time she's miraculously been saved. The papers have been full of rumours about Katie already having a record deal in America - and let's not forget that she didn't actually sing a full song at the Judge's houses...

It's a great TV show and I don't really care either way - but this video has got me intrigued. Watch closely - and see if you can identify the mystery dancer who is playing a DJ in the Jedward video... no, it couldn't be. Could it?!

Natwest Community Fund

A panel consisting of the Mayor of Warwick - Michael Kinson OBE
together with Sarah James from the County Council, Ben Day from Touch FM and
Colonel Price joined senior bank manager Chris
Watson at NatWest’s Leamington Spa branch to
discuss the three winners of the bank’s community fund.

Recently NatWest launched a new fund, as part of its customer
charter, to support local charities and projects, and invited customers and
local people to decide who would benefit from this new community initiative. 380
individual funds of £5,000 were created nationwide, with £3,000 awarded to the
most popular good cause and £1,000 to the two runners up.

After weeks of voting hundreds of different charities were
nominated by the public for the local donations.

After carefully examining the nomination papers, the panel chose
Dogs for the Disabled, the Friendship Project for Children and The Gap (Warwick
Percy Estate Community Projects) as the three charities to benefit.

The public are being invited to vote from 8th November
on which of the three charities will receive the £3,000 top donation and which
two will each receive £1,000, by visiting their local NatWest branch or by
logging on to natwest.com/communityfund.

Ballooning

I've always been the sort of person who never puts weight on, no matter how many burgers, chips and cheesecakes I hungrily devour. When I was 18, people would say: "If you carry on eating like that, you'll pile on the pounds one day".

That day, my friend, has arrived. It was a horrible moment when I looked in the mirror the other morning and thought "hold on, I'm tubbier than I was yesterday". In the last year I've given up going to the gym because I simply don't have time (that's my excuse anyway!). One year ago I ran the Two Castles Run in a very respectable time - now the furthest I could manage is to the chip shop. I'm by no means overweight, I'm just not as lean as I once was - and I fear that if I don't start doing something about it now, shedding the pounds will be more difficult in the future. Something's got to change. So... I'm going to have to start eating more healthily and getting back to my old running habits...

I'll let you know how it goes.

Talking of ballooning, we had a great chat with a gentleman at the Hampton Ferry Charity Gala yesterday... he owns a hot air balloon and he's promised us a ride in his hot air balloon. We'll try and arrange it so that we can go up and do the show from a balloon - how cool would that be? We'll let you know when it's all arranged and if we're likely to be floating over your house!

We're back tomorrow but in the meantime, download the Podcast of all the best bits of last week's show - click here to go to the Podcast on the iTunes store.

Bank Holidays

So here we are again on the cusp of another bank holiday weekend. Last weekend we all baked in glorious sunshine as it reached nearly 30C around here (can anyone else remember it being that hot in May before? I can't...)

This weekend, however, the weather forecast is slightly less inspiring. I'm not rushing out to buy spare-ribs and sausages, and I won't be lugging my picnic bag to St Nicholas Park. Just as I didn't last bank holiday weekend.

I think this is the problem. We have too many bank holidays in Spring, and not enough in Summer. If I was in charge of bank holidays, I'd space them out a bit. I know there are reasons behind our bank holidays - some traditional, some religious. But why not space them out a little more evenly. If there's a month to have two bank holidays, do it in July or September.

I've thought about this a lot. A bank holiday at the end of July would mean that parents could have an extra day to spend with their kids on the summer holidays. There would be less traffic around because a lot of people would already be on holiday. And we wouldn't have all of our bank holiday eggs in one basket - they'd be a little more spaced out through the year instead of all coming at once. It's clear that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, in my world at least.

And how am I spending my Bank Holiday? (And this isn't a complaint before you point out that I play songs for a living!!!) I'm on air - and on my day off-air, I'm hosting "Music Was My First Love" at the Warwick Arts Centre. Just as well the weather's not going to be great then isn't it?

Bike

Yesterday I did something I don't do very often. I went to Halfords. I try and avoid it because of it's smell of tyres and rows of spare car parts that I have absolutely no idea about - however yesterday was different... I knew exactly what I needed.

I had to buy a tyre pump so that I could pump up the tyres on my newly re-acquired mountain bike. I bought a mountain bike about four years ago with all good intentions of riding it - however, since then it's been sitting gathering dust in my dad's garage. It's been ridden about three times and has a slightly squeaky back wheel.

Very often at a weekend I like to walk along the canal by my house, and I thought that if I had a bike, it'd be easier to make a day of it and go further... so I asked my dad to get it down from the loft and I've now locked it in the bike shed at the back of my house.

I'm wondering if I can cycle to work one morning this week - it's seven miles and at 5:00am there's not much traffic about - it's getting back that could prove tricky... by the time I'm ready to leave I'm normally too tired to ride a bike.

Shopping Timesaver

At the weekend, I went shopping and noticed a rather clever idea in the supermarket. At the front of the shop, there's a wall of hand-held barcode scanners. When you go in, they let you take a scanner, and scan your own shopping as you go around.

I know it doesn't sound very exciting but it saved SO much time for me. You bag your items as you go around the store - which, when you think about it, makes a lot of sense... Plus your bill is ready for you when you get to the checkout.

If your nearest supermarket do it and you've never used it, have a go!

The Dust Cloud

So the giant dust cloud has a grip on the country - all of our airspace is closed at the moment and no planes are flying over the country. By the way the news are reporting it, you'd think we were in for a repeat of Pompei.

I've found a couple of fascinating websites which should kill a couple of hours for you if you're stuck at work:

http://www.radarvirtuel.com - see real time radar of all air traffic control across Europe

http://eldgos.mila.is/eyjafjallajokull-fra-valahnjuk/ - real time webcam of the actual volcano which exploded

And if you're wondering - yes - it's a slow day in the Touch FM office...
