Peace Man

"Summertime” (sing with me) "and the livin' is easy” ...

I am so glad however; that the weather held off for the annual Peace Festival in Leamington. We had a mixed forecast but luckily for the stall holders, acts and punters enjoying various food delights, face-painting and soft drinks (mostly) the rain held off.

Everyone seemed to be in high-spirts, with the usual peace-loving party-goers enjoying themselves wearing next to nothing at the front of the stage. I went along and watched a great reggae band and those of you who had a lie in or breakfast in bed on Father's Day missed out on my friend Jess who was singing with a group called 'Songlines'at 10.45 on the Sunday morning. They certainly brightened up the day.

What I love about the Peace Fest, is that the whole town comes together, whether you call in for a quick half an hour on your lunch break or wander around with the family, usually more so when the sun is out admittedly, but it's a time to relax, forget your troubles, listen to some live music and an excuse to buy a friendship band.

I've been getting up at the crack of dawn in our new house, sitting out on the decking until the new patio furniture arrives but generally life is great. Apart from the other day when had a nasty bug. I got over it soon enough but felt very weak and the cupboards were bare. I am a really fussy eater and I fancied something warm and tasty. Lasagne. That's what I fancied. So I went to the supermarket in my weakened state (can you hear the violins?) and slowly packed my basket on wheels full of the ingredients plus a few extras. I got to the 'check-out' and slowly unpacked my goods, waiting for the usual offer from the check out girl "Would you like a hand with your packing?'. This bubbly brunette smiled and quietly waited while I took a little while to off load. But the offer never came. I was so frustrated. It was the only bloomin' time I wanted it!

Check me out tomorrow from 10am-2pm.

An exciting week with the Queen, RST & a pop star

Well, well well, where has the time gone to?!

I hope you've been well and enjoying some of the warmer weather?

It's been quite an exciting few weeks in Warwickshire, with the Queen visiting Leamington to open 'Warwickshire Justice Centre' and 'RST' in Stratford-upon-Avon. Touch FM were of course there; broadcasting live from both events and it all sounded very exciting!

I was preparing for an interview with delightful Boyzone star 'Ronan Keating' who has had huge success not only with the boy-band, but solo success too with 4 out of out 6 albums reaching number one. After talking to him, I discovered that not only did he seem like , dare I say; almost enjoyed his Kilimanjaro climb for Comic Relief last year alongside mates Gary Barlow and Craig David but is also looking to undertake a swim across the Irish Channel with a few other celebs ' Don't worry, I'm only doing it as part of a relay' he said. Ronan was quite a talkative chap, even opening up that relationships take a lot of work. He's been through quite a rough 2 years with his fellow boy-band star 'Stephen Gately' dying in 2009 and his wife discovering he was having an-extramarital affair in 2010, but after speaking to Ronan, he's taking everything in is stride and is ready for whatever else the world throws at him. Right now, that means the last of his tour dates with Boyzone, then it's on to promote his new album 'When Ronan Met Burt' which is a beautifully sounding album full of tracks that Burt Bacharach has written. Ronan was completely honest and said ' It was a definite challenge for me. There was Burt. A total legend. Some of the most wonderful songs in the world and lil old me, Yes, I was quaking in my boots!' We're currently playing 'Arthur's Theme' and it's Ronan's favourite song from the album. After that, Ronan's off to do some more talent spotting, heading down to Oz for a feature-film and to be a judge on 'Australia's X Factor'.

Check out the show from 10-2pm Monday to Friday on 102 and 107.3 Touch FM and don't forget to download the app too!

The biggest party to celebrate music & a dream come true!

Hello again, I can just about hear the birds tweeting and can I see the crocus's opening? Is spring on the horizon? Well, I hope this Spring would just hurry the heck up!

Although I've been having quite an exciting few weeks!

I was so pleased to learn that I had a ticket to go to the BRITS, which were held on February 15th, hosted by James Cordon at London's O2 arena, so Valentines day was just a small occasion in my house as I was bursting with excitement and apprehension about the following night. It's always been a dream of mine to attend the Brits. And here I was holding a VIP ticket, for a meal, show and after-party. Wow. Wow. Wow.

I was stressing (born stress-er and worrier by the way) about everything; how to have my hair done, shoes and of course, the dress? What dress would I wear amongst nominees Chezza Cole, Paloma Faith and Rhianna?

I skimmed my wardrobe and everything looked 'not right' for The BRITS which was to be a dream come true! Epic panic!

Luckily women's clothing 'Revolve' along Warwick Street in Leamington sorted me out with a beautiful strapless 'LouLou' black gown which was strapless with diamanté bust, black satin and an a-symmetrical net end of the dress. Luckily I found black killer heels to wear, had my hair done, bought eyelashes, applied some fake tan and I was sorted!

The 'Diamond' ticket requested my arrival at 5pm and I was to walk down the red carpet along to the first arena to start the festivities with a meal, which was absolutely exquisite. Posh guests tucked into 'Pumpkin and Ginger parfait, followed by Fillet of beef shin with curly kale and white bean truffle purée. In-between courses, the lady who was to receive the 'critics award ' Jessie J who first burst onto the scene writing songs for Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys , sang both hits "Do It Like A Dude” and "Price Tag” to an excited audience! The champers flowed freely with our waiter, waiting to attend to our every need. "Could you possibly bring over Mark and Robbie from Take That please”? I asked cheekily. Even Peter Andre would do...” "No, Sorry madam, they're eating too” and instead brought desert.

We were told to stay in our seats as the show was starting in 30 minutes. I wasn't really up for that so I decided to go and investigate who was in the ladies powdering their nose to get some goss and came across a new girl group. They were sweet, if a little enhanced and rushed off to have their picture taken for a magazine.

I spoke to a couple of really glam ladies but no real VIPs, where were they hiding? IN the toilet?

The show was about to start so we took to our seats which were fab, had a close view of the stage and Take That really got the audience going with the opening set. The awards got well under way with Plan B winning Best Male, Best International Group went to 'Arcade Fire' and they also beat hotly tipped Take That's 'Progress' for best album with 'Suburbs'. Which is an album I haven't downloaded but may do now... Chezza let the world know of her girl crush as she handed Best International Female to Rhianna, which had previously been won by Katy Perry and Beyonce. Although her dress was stunning, it was a bit, just a bit Bridesmaid like. Just saying. Other highlights included Plan B's set, Paloma Faith and Cee lo Green's duet, Cee Lo was celebrating his win of 'Best International Male' but unfortunately stood on Paloma's dress mid way through the performance and I absolutely adored 'Adele when she sang her new song 'Someone like you'.

The awards finished and the after-show parties started! I briefly saw Justin Beiber who was celebrating with a soft drink after winning 'Best International Break Through' and was surrounded by a huge entourage and no one could get near him. I only wanted an autograph for my 6 year old step-daughter who loves him. Olly Murs was partying away with one of the Pussycat girls but was also talking about how Rhianna was so sexy! Make your mind up boy! The parties continued elsewhere with Take That being at the Savoy Hotel with Chezza and Rhianna in attendance. Unfortunately Jordan's ex -Alex Reid and Denise Welsh of Loose Women and Dancing On Ice got refused! Embarrassing... I was glad to stay in the O2 and party with Mark Ronson, Boy George & co before getting a taxi back to the hotel. It was such an amazing night, if a bit tame? I was expecting more rock n roll, something with a bit more swagger and mischief. And where was the lifetime achievement award? I did suffer just a little the next day. But if you can't let your hair down at The Brits, where can you?!

Christmas, Wedding and an un-friendly Zip!

Happy New Year to you!

How are the new resolutions going? Did you even bother to make any? After a couple of listeners inspired me to do SOME KIND of healthy eating; I think I've decided on something and it will be a challenge! I will tell you more next time...

After pondering on how Christmas would go with my boyfriend and I cooking for the first time; it was a success, which meant, I ate and drank for England! You may remember from the last column that we were planning to cook Christmas dinner ourselves for the first time for my Dad. Luckily, we were without any rows about the remote control and pressies included tickets for Sally Morgan, Blood Brothers & Kylie!

If you'd have read my Facebook status' you would know that I finished 2010 with a pretty heavy addiction to Stilton and Chateauneuf du Pape.

Just last week the cupboards were bare apart from odd bits of Christmas food. One evening, the only dinner we could muster up (as we were too lazy to go to the supermarket for a proper shop) was tuna&pasta bake. Boring! Especially as we'd become accustomed to the delights of Christmas food, treats, chocolate's , alcohol and general grazing fodder whilst visiting! I decided to take a look in the fridge 'A-ha! Here we go!' I said to my boyf. ' Make a small portion of food babe, because I've just found a sticky toffee pudding, an un-opened pot of Brandy&Cointreau butter and the last bottle of red wine' Result. So we were still eating 4 courses well into January! Naughty!

Before Christmas, I did manage to lose a few pounds, and bought a dress in the sales for my friend' Katy & Marcus's wedding which was to be held in Ettington on December 30th.

Please note, that the dress was acquired BEFORE Christmas. You've just heard how I'd indulged until my hearts' content AT Christmas. The wedding was AFTER Christmas. And as you've probably guessed, my size 10 dress knew I'd grazed on grapes and gorgonzola, goats cheese and mouth-watering black forest gateau's. I'd been found out!

On the morning of the wedding, I was being punished! My boyfriend had a fight with the zip, with me hissing in a tone usually heard by angry and annoyed cats 'Don't catch my skin babe'. My thoughts were scanning my wardrobe, er, er er, ok, the old Karen Millen will do, I honestly thought I was going to have to wear choice number 2. When suddenly the Size 10 and his friend the zip, forgave my ultimate greediness and extra inch of back-fat and it zipped up. Phew! Admittedly a little tight around the waist but as I started to sing and dance (to the football chant of 'Ere we go, ere we go ere we go') 'Size 10, size 10, s-i-z-e 10' my hot and bothered other half continued with 'Squeezed in, squeezed in, squee-zed - in'. That told me!

We rushed to watch the beautiful Katy&Marcus getting wed with daughter Imogen as one of the bridesmaids. Other guests on our table may have noticed I didn't finish all of the delightful 3 course meal. I was afraid that the zip may not have helped me twice in one day.

The Deathly Hallow Handbag, Gladrags and Snow update

 Hi!
I hope I find you well and you've been enjoying the autumnal weather. I must admit driving down Holly Walk in Leamington Spa with the big oak tree's with brown, red and goldly looking leaves have been wonderful. As I'm now on the later slot of 5pm, I haven't been seeing many sunrises, but I have been seeing the sunsets and just the other day as I was driving up from Charlbury, near Banbury up the M40 towards in Warwick, I saw such beautiful colours of red's, pink's and even purple's filling up the lower half of the big sky.

Amongst all this driving, I've been out and about at various events. Just last Thursday it was the "Godiva Award's 2010”.
"Where is my list?” I thought to myself whilst rummaging through my over-sized handbag which usually means over-cluttered with such items; make-up bag, wipes for make-up smudges en-route to events which double up when seeing my little step-daughter Alice to clean away treat stains or a snotty nose when we've used up all the black diary which is a thick A-5 size but still manages to get lost in an oversize bag; car keys, work keys and 2 different types of My Little Pony, over-spill from Alice, oh yes, one brown, soft conker and one brown, dog-eared leaf. "But where is that list” I ask myself. Ah- right here. Crushed between the conker and a small and pink My Little Pony. Ok, so what's left on this list?..

Nails DONE to match the blood red evening dress; hair DONE , straightened and smoothed out from it's usual naturally curly birdnest style (although Kate Moss was pictured with a similar look last month) and dress picked up from the dry cleaners. All sorted. Now on to the awards.
The event was held at the prestigious Richo arena in Coventry and was the 7th year the awards had been running celebrating local businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire. At the beginning of the evening we caught up with a couple of the nominated businesses. Marion from children's hairdresser's in Augusta Place, Leamington "Junior Junction” explained why they should win 'Business innovation' " Because we're innovative, unique, affordable, different, fun and funky” The award eventually went to The Bike Yard in Leamington.

I've actually packed an over-night bag to stay over tonight as news of the snow arrives. Please check our website for updates, traffic and travel news and school closures!

Lack lustre Dancing on Ice?

Hi again!

Did you watch the final of Dancing On Ice last night? I was rooting for the bloke from Holyoaks, but he didn't even get to skate the Bolero. It was between early favourite Hayley former Emmerdale character and Gary Lucy from errr Holyoaks, Footbaleers Wives and the Bill. I wasn't surprised Hayley was crowned the champion as there wasn't that much competition! My favourite dance was the "Bollywood” style. It was fantastic both times! I did feel that the show was a bit lack-lustre this time around. Last year I took my mum to see it at the NIA and she happened to bump into Christopher Deane! Check out my photo's from when I took part in a similar competition a few years ago!

Losing weight, those lovely twins and playing ball

Hello again!

Wow, I have been a busy lady and that's just the way I like it.

You may have seen the video's of Peak Fitness the challenge? I have been trying to lose weight, tone up and get fit after a rather naughty and indulgent end to 2009 with crimbo, new year's eve and the cold dark days of January. I'm not going to fib. It has been long and hard. I often wondered would it really be so bad to enjoy the finer things in life along with the odd glass of red wine or champagne with the odd piece of dark chocolate? And that's when it hit me. You can have all of those things, if you exercise enough and have your own muscle burning the fat for you- even when you aren't working out. Fab! The results were great and I shall be revealing all in the Peak Fitness diary or you can watch the final video now.

I paid a visit to the Radisson hotel in Birmingham last week. It's The X-Factor Tour and I interviewed "Jedward”. They will be on the show on Thursday morning.

A funeral and errm, an awards night

Hello and welcome along to my blog.

It has been a funny old month.

I was off on Tuesday for my uncle Mick's funeral. He was quite a legend in his time for boxing. He won the British middleweight title in 1963 and at one time beat Sugar Ray Robinson. The church had over 400 people in attendance which showed how much he was loved and respected.

Wednesday night was a completely different event altogether. The National TV Awards were held at the O2 in London. The stars were out in force to celebrate the small screen. It was Stephen Fry's night as he picked up best documentary for his travelogue 'In America' and was also presented with the Special Recognition award.

I wore a black and white puffball dress; which was quite similar to Dannii Minogue's designer frock and I did get quite a few compliments from the other ladies during our wait for the loo in-between advert breaks!

There's lots of showbiz goss to share including Simon Cowell and Sinetta turning up late. David Tennant was awarded for Outstanding Drama Performance and he did seem to ramble a bit, the director was not impressed and started flapping his arms about, trying to tell david to wrap it up.. David was having none of it; so when it came to Corrie winning best soap. There wasn't time for them to do a proper speech. Instead Dermot rushed on, thanked everyone for coming and explained we'd ran out of time! The highlight of the night for me was Vanilla Ice performing his old track Ice Ice Baby with Jedward; it certainly took me back to when I recorded the dance from Top Of The Pops in '91 and tried to learn it whilst the lads wanted to learn the rap. Happy days...
