Hammer-wielding robbers target Welford shop

Robbers armed with hammers have stolen money from a shop in Welford.

The shop's owner was hit during the raid at Maypole Stores on High Street, and suffered minor injuries to his hands and arms.

The incident occurred at around 8.20pm yesterday (Monday 22 January).

Three men wearing dark clothes with their faces covered entered the store armed with hammers and threatened a man before leaving with a quantity of cash. They left the scene heading towards Bidford in a Mercedes 4x4.
Detective Sergeant Richard Simpkins said: “Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries but he has been left feeling shaken.
“The shop is on the main road through Welford so someone passing by may have seen the incident or seen the men coming or going from the store.
“I would like to appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 384 of 22 January 2018. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
