Cash stolen from pensioner in Redditch

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner had cash stolen from her purse in Redditch.

The distraction theft happened at around 5.10pm on Monday (20 May), when a woman in her 90s was approached by a man on Mount Pleasant who offered to carry her bag.

He then reached into the bag, took a sum of money from her purse and ran down the steps towards Haresfield Road.

The offender is described as being white, around 40 years old and 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with short dark hair. He was wearing navy trousers and a dark navy top with red patches on it.

Enquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident or was around the area at the time.

The area is believed to have been busy, so police would also like to speak to those driving through the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 500S of 20 May.
